The national monument wooden drying shed at the sawmill site De Otter in Amsterdam has recently been fully renovated and made more sustainable, with attention to the historical value of the location. The drying shed, originally an essential part of the sawmill powered for centuries by De Otter, has retained its characteristic appearance, respecting the original woodwork and traditional architectural style.

The restoration has made the building future-proof through insulation with sustainable materials and an innovative heating system (aquathermy). At the same time, a lot of attention has been paid to the historical elements, such as the national monument trusses, to preserve the heritage.

The restored wooden drying shed now serves as a tribute to the (almost) 400 years of rich history of the sawmill. The drying shed is used as a multifunctional space, among other things for educational activities, cultural and business events.
