About the space
In the stately Palace Lange Voorhout in The Hague, which long served as the residence of the Dutch princesses, a whole different world unfolded behind the dignified façade: that of the kitchen. Here, footmen and court chefs prepared meals that, through an ingenious system of service corridors and lifts, were discreetly brought to the upper dining rooms. Although the palace was relatively small compared to the large residences in Apeldoorn or Soestdijk, it had a particularly intimate atmosphere: the kitchen staff was close to the princess and her immediate entourage.
Today, the basement still breathes the atmosphere of the past. The kitchen bears witness to a time when royal simplicity and Hague court style met—a silent witness to daily life behind royal etiquette.
